HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY HUB
A “re-imagined” experience for students and staff alike best describes the freshly renovated Huntington University Union Building, better known as the HUB, on the beautiful Huntington University (HU) campus. Originally constructed in 1968, the HUB was established as the heart of the HU campus, providing an environment for organized and impromptu student gatherings. Over the decades, the large, open student-centric spaces inside the HUB were carved up to add needed office space and other campus services, slowly transitioning the building away from the experience originally intended for students. Now, with this transformation complete, the HUB is once again the center of campus activities where relationships and collaborations lasting many lifetimes are formed.
Located within the HUB are multiple assets that support the building’s use as the “hub” for student, staff, and visitor gathering. Upon walking through the grand entrance, the first experience is a panoramic vista of the campus through the vast array of glass and glazing, enhanced by captivating views of Lake Sno-Tip adjoining the HUB. Visitors sense an overall feeling of community - vacant with the previous building layout.
Additional interior features include a large-scale gas-log fireplace (the largest such unit manufactured in North America!), Student Life offices serving student academic and counselling needs, a transformed HU Bookstore providing everything from academic materials to fashionable HU gear and clothing, a new and welcoming Starbucks coffee shop, a much-anticipated food court, and student community gathering space on both floors boasting comfortable and inviting seating. Also found on the second floor of the student space is a stage for open mic nights, entertainers, bands, and other events hosted by students and student groups.
New and upgraded exterior decks and stamped concrete terraces surround the building, a welcoming fire pit sits lake side, and lighting strung overhead allows gatherings to extend into pleasant Indiana evenings.
